As a young boy, Joseph Nemec IV was known as Corin by everyone
who loved him. As a baby, his grandmother used to say that
he was a 'real corker', this turned into Corky. From that
time, everyone called him Corky. From Corky sprung Corin,
the name we all know him as. Corin Nemec began acting at the
age of 12. His first TV show was back in 1986 on an episode
of Sidekicks, but we all know Corin Nemec as Parker Lewis
from the TV show "Parker Lewis can't loose" and
of course as our favorite Kelownan from Stargate SG-1: Jonas
Quinn!
Gilles Nuytens: Hello
Mr. Nemec, glad you agreed to make this interview. Could you
first say some words to your fans and especially your Stargate
fans ?
Corin Nemec: My message to anyone interested
is: never let life impede on your ability to manifest your
dreams, and should it impede, or attempt to impede, dig deeper
into your dreams and deeper into yourself and believe that
much harder that anything is possible, and make it happens.
Gilles Nuytens: At
the present time, what are the things that motivates you in
life ?
Corin Nemec: At the present time, what motivates
me in life is unmanifested destiny and the absolute need and
nececity to create my life to be what I have always imagined
it to be. I have found out here in Hollywood that talent does
not always prevail and that belief in one's self is the greatest
belief that exist, for no one will ever believe in you as
much as you believe in yourself.
Gilles
Nuytens: You played in season
6 of Stargate SG-1, how was it on the sets ? Some rumours
said that there were sometimes misunderstandings between you
and some people of the staff, is it true ?
Corin Nemec: I had a great time filming season
six with everyone. I don't presently know of any misunderstandings
that occured between me and anyone on that project, but if
you know something I don't, I would certainly be interested
in finding out what it is. They have a wonderful team up there
in vancouver and have created a great work environment for
everyone from the stars of the show to the production assistants.
Gilles Nuytens: From
your year on Stargate, which are the best moments you keep
in mind ?
Corin Nemec: The best moments I keep in mind
from working on stargate is the whole of the work experience.
The consistency, the work environment, the people, and location.
Vancouver is a fantastic place to work and live!
Gilles Nuytens: We
haven't seen you in the show since episode "Fallout",
would you like that the writers make you come back for some
episodes ? For exemple, why don't you propose a story with
Jonas facing the invasion of the Ori/Priors on Kelowna ? It
would be a good occasion for a come back of Jonas!
Corin Nemec: Yes,
I would love to come back to SG1. Even for one episode. I
have thought about possible storylines, but at present have
not approached anyone up there about them. Perhaps I will
have to do that soon!
Gilles Nuytens: Some years
after, how do you see Jonas, how would you describe him, his
psychology, and which part of you did you gave to him ?
Corin Nemec: Realistically
I have not thought too much about the psychology or life of
the character jonas in some time, but by what has been written,
I would imagine that he would be doing quite well in Kelowna.
Perhaps a world leader.
Gilles Nuytens: Same
question about Parker Lewis ?
Corin Nemec: Parker
Lewis is most likely running a multinational corporation right
now.
Gilles Nuytens: Could
you describe us a typical day of a television's actor from
morning to evening and the one of a cinema actor if any differences
?
Corin Nemec: There's
probably not much of a difference between the daily life of
a film actor and cinema actor, unless you are working on a
multi-camera sit-com, and I will say, there is also infinite
variations in their daily lives. We are all artists and all
have our own unique perspective on life, so it would be far
to general a statement to try and describe the daily life
of an actor in Hollywood, but I am quite certain that cappucinos
have something to do with it.
Gilles
Nuytens: Your best memory
on Parker Lewis, a strong moment unforgettable ?
Corin Nemec: My
best memory of Parker Lewis was... well, there are a few I
suppose, but one would be the time one of our directors was
stopped for drinking and driving on a sunday night before
work and could not get to set the next day in the morning
due to incarceration. We had done an episode the week before
where my father was thrown in jail for protesting or something,
and the sets were still standing. So... we had them take down
the set and re-build in the area the director usually worked
from and once he finally got to set he had to direct from
jail for the rest of the day.
Gilles Nuytens: You
certainly have many funny inside stories/anecdotes to tell
us about Stargate, do you have one in mind ?
Corin Nemec: Not
really any anecdotes that come to mind right off hand. Filming
a drama is somewhat different, you know? Though we did have
a great time, I don't recall any moments that even come close
to the "directing from jail" moment of Parker Lewis.
Gilles Nuytens: What
is your favourite episode in Stargate and in Parker Lewis
and why ?
Corin Nemec: My
favorite episode of stargate???? All of them! My favorite
episode of parker lewis???? All of them!
Gilles Nuytens: When
you are acting, what drill you to show the emotions to your
character ?
Corin Nemec: Every
role varies greatly, just as emotions vary greatly. All emotions
exist within every character, you see, but it is the situation
which prescibes what emotion may prevail for that moment.
I would say that it is not specifically emotions that Ii focus
on when creating a character, but the psychological nature
of certainty. All the characters are certain that they are
experiencing FOR REAL whatever is happening in the scripted
pages.
Gilles Nuytens: You
come from an artistic family, where arts have a big place.
You are artist yourself, what do you like and motivates you
in art ?
Corin Nemec: What
motivates me in art is the ugly and beautiful nature of the
truth. It has to be truthful and honest, even if it is ugly
and grotesque. Art is about expressing the true nature of
the human spirit within in whatever way one wishes to express
it. If it is honest, it is beautiful, if it is not honest,
it is obvious.
Gilles Nuytens: What
did you felt when they announced you that Michael Shanks would
take back his role in Stargate ?
Corin Nemec: When
they announced that Michael was coming back to the show, I
honestly felt let-down. It was shocking and jarring to the
system. I understand the reason, but I felt saddened by the
result.
Gilles Nuytens: Thank
you so much for answering these questions! You are coming
to Belgium in October, I hope you'll like my country. And
for sure I'll come say hello to you!
Corin Nemec: Yes,
I will be in Belgium in October and I have heard wonderful
things about it, and I look forward to coming there and
meeting you and seeing your country.
Thank you for your kind questions and when we do meet, please
feel free to set up a moment when we can talk in person
for further Q & A.
